Guidance emphasizes developmentally appropriate assessment, case conceptualization, safety planning, caregiver involvement, and restorative interventions that address the behavior without shaming. Clinicians learn to distinguish developmentally appropriate sexual behaviors from those requiring intervention, strengthen protective boundaries, support accountability and skill development, and promote healing for the child and the broader family system. Supervision is grounded in a trauma-informed, family-centered approach that prioritizes safety, dignity, and long-term well-being.
Supporting the Family System Following a Traumatic Experience
Specialized supervision and consultation support clinicians working with children and families following traumatic experiences, including disclosure of childhood sexual abuse. Guidance addresses how to support caregivers around how to respond following a disclosure, helping caregivers manage their own emotional reactions, communicating with the child in supportive and developmentally appropriate ways, and navigating reporting, forensic interviews, investigations, and other involved systems.
