Katrina Kessler, MS

Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor

Katrina has experience and training working with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with anxiety, emotion regulation, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, life transitions, codependency, perfectionism, parenting, and inner child work. She has experience in both individual and group therapy. She has worked in a range of settings, including an online parenting community, an inpatient adolescent hospital, an outpatient mental health clinic, and college counseling centers. She also spent over a decade working in both the mental health research and training worlds, where she completed various mental health trainings focusing on suicide assessment and interventions.

Katrina is a passionate advocate for children’s and parents’ mental health, with a particular focus on supporting caregivers in their parenting journey. She is trained in Dr. Becky’s Good Inside method, which she integrates into her work to help parents feel more confident, connected, and grounded. Katrina believes in the inherent goodness of all children and uses this perspective to guide her approach when addressing challenging behaviors. She has led online parenting support groups, offered individual parenting consultations, and facilitated nature-based groups for caregivers and their children—helping families deepen their connection through shared experiences in nature. Katrina strongly believes in the healing power of nature and the transformative potential of attuned, compassionate parenting.

She believes that building a therapeutic relationship with a child, adult, or family is an honor and should not be taken lightly. She strives to create a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere in her sessions and aims to curate a collaborative process where she develops treatment plans based on the individual’s temperament, past history, and current needs. She uses a holistic approach, bringing in methods such as talk therapy, play therapy, expressive arts, CBT, and attachment work. Katrina believes empathy, playfulness, and understanding can be powerful tools in therapy with both adults and children.

Katrina is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor practicing under the supervision of Dr. Courtney Glickman. She completed her undergraduate work at James Madison University with a double major in Psychology and Communications, and earned her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Maryland. Katrina is currently working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist.
