“I believe every child is inherently good, even when their behavior is challenging. When we approach children with curiosity, connection, and compassion, we can better understand what they need while helping them develop the skills and confidence to grow.”
Work with Katrina
Katrina's Healing Philosophy
Katrina provides warm, compassionate therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and caregivers. She strives to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can feel understood, explore their experiences openly, and develop greater confidence in themselves and their relationships.
Katrina works with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, trauma, perfectionism, codependency, parenting challenges, and difficult life transitions. She also supports adults interested in exploring how earlier experiences continue to influence their emotions, relationships, and patterns in the present.
Katrina is especially passionate about supporting parents and caregivers. She understands how overwhelming parenting can feel, particularly when a child is struggling with big emotions or challenging behaviors. Trained in Dr. Becky Kennedy’s Good Inside approach, Katrina helps caregivers look beneath behavior, understand the needs a child may be communicating, and respond with greater connection, confidence, and consistency. Her work is grounded in the belief that children and parents are inherently good, even when family life feels difficult.
Through individual parent consultations and parenting support groups, Katrina offers a space where caregivers can reflect without judgment, gain practical tools, and strengthen their relationships with their children. Rather than expecting perfection, she helps parents develop an approach that feels authentic, sustainable, and responsive to their family’s unique needs.
Katrina takes a collaborative and holistic approach to therapy, tailoring treatment to each client’s temperament, history, strengths, and current goals. She integrates talk therapy, attachment-based work, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, and expressive arts interventions. Katrina also values the healing power of nature and has facilitated nature-based groups designed to deepen connection between children and their caregivers.
Her clinical experience includes individual and group therapy within an inpatient adolescent hospital, an outpatient mental health clinic, college counseling centers, and an online parenting community. Katrina also spent more than a decade working in mental health research and professional training and has completed specialized training in suicide assessment and intervention.
Katrina earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Communication from James Madison University and her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Maryland. She is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor practicing under the supervision of Dr. Courtney Glickman and is actively working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist.
