Work with Courtney

Courtney's Healing Philosophy

Courtney has extensive experience and specialized training in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with problematic sexual behaviors, trauma-focused integrative play therapy, and extended play-based developmental assessment. She incorporates play, expressive arts, sand tray, and nature-based approaches in her work with children, adolescents, and adults.

Throughout her career, Courtney has worked in hospitals, community-based agencies, and outpatient mental health settings, supporting individuals and families from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. She provides evidence-informed individual, family, and group therapy for concerns related to trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, attachment, adjustment, and emotional dysregulation. She also supports adoptive and foster families, integrating attachment-based approaches to strengthen relationships and promote greater connection and felt safety within the family.

Courtney has additional expertise in sexuality and gender identity development and works with individuals, partners, and families. She is committed to providing a safe, affirming, and respectful environment where clients can explore their identities and receive support related to discrimination, gender identity, sexual orientation, and other personal or societal challenges.

Courtney earned dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology and communication from the University of Central Florida, followed by both her master’s and doctoral degrees in counseling from The George Washington University, where she later served as an adjunct professor. She is also completing the requirements to become a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist through the Expressive Arts Florida Institute.

Courtney has published articles and presents nationally and internationally on play therapy, attachment, nature-informed therapy, trauma, problematic sexual behaviors in children, discrimination, and LGBTQ+ identity and development. In 2025, she was named Play Therapist of the Year by the Maryland/DC Association for Play Therapy. In recognition of this achievement and her contributions to the field, Courtney was formally honored on the floor of the Maryland State Senate in 2026.
