Homeschool Nature Group

Homeschool Nature Group

Join us for a semester-long nature based play and expressive arts therapeutic experience specifically for homeschoolers, 5-12! Lead by former homeschooling mom/teacher and special education teacher turned therapists!

This group connects to the power of nature based play therapy and its restorative effects on cognitive and emotional function in children. Research has found that playing in nature stimulates creativity and problem-solving skills integral to executive function development. Spending time in nature is essential for cognitive development. Children who play and spend time in nature have increased concentration and cognitive skills, including mitigation of ADHD/ADD symptoms. Additional benefits are seen in various areas of child development including motor coordination and balance, curiosity, risk-identification, self-regulation and social and emotional learning. Through this experience we hope to support your children in developing a stronger sense of self, connection to their peers and community, and connection to nature.

Caregiver-Child Group: Catonsville

Nurtured in Nature: Caregiver-Child Group

Come connect with other caregivers and children in nature for a therapeutic experience for families of children ages 3-6.

Nature provides a non-judgmental space for a child to explore, foster and develop relational skills with others and confidence within themselves. This group will integrate child-led play with mindfulness practices and expressive arts. Children will have opportunities to access creativity and curiosity while also practicing social skills and problem solving skills. Being in nature can help a child (and caregiver) with stress reduction, resilience and concentration. The aim of the group is for the child and caregiver to leave the group feeling more connected to each other, to their peers and to nature.

This group will be led by Katrina Kessler, a therapist who works with children and parents and specializes in the Dr. Becky Good Inside Method.

Caregivers will participate in the group sessions with children. Caregivers will also attend a group virtual caregiver orientation session before dyadic groups begin and well as a closing out caregiver session at the closing of the six weeks. This will allow caregivers the opportunity to ask Katrina questions and learn parenting strategies that can be applied inside and outside of the group setting.

  • Address: Benjamin Banneker Park: 300 Oella Ave, Catonsville, MD

  • Tuesdays, 10:30-11:30am, rain or shine

  • Groups meet for six consecutive weeks (4/16, 4/23, 4/30, 5/7, 5/14, 5/21)

  • 2 virtual caregiver sessions (4/15 at 2pm and closing session date TBD)

  • Consent forms will be sent via our client portal (Simple Practice) prior to group start date. These must be completed before your child can participate in group."

Camp Collective

Kids Summer Camp

Camp Collective is a unique camp experience inspired by our popular Nurtured in Nature groups. This summer camp is distinct in that it runs all morning, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and includes nature exploration, experiential activities, collaborative art, imaginative play, and therapy animals. This camp is 100% immersive, meaning that it will be held outside at our outdoor office during the camp hours listed. Campers will engage in nature-based and expressive arts activities that encourage creativity, sensory awareness and body-based therapies that calm the nervous system and encourage nature bonding like using clay, paint, movement, and more. Each day will provide a mixture of non-directive "free play," therapeutic individual and group activities, art/creation time, and time for a snack and lunch.

Overall camp goals for children ages 5-12 are to build confidence in self and emotions, tap into their creative imagination, garner appreciation for the Earth, develop body and space awareness, grow focus and balance, and connect with campers in their age range.

One mid-morning snack will be provided but campers should bring their own water bottles and lunch. Caregivers should apply sunscreen and bug spray to their campers before dropping them off.

  • Consent forms will be sent via our client portal (Simple Practice) prior to group start date. These must be completed before your child can participate in group.
